Vogler, Christopher. The Writers Journey. 3rd edition. Studio City: Michael Wiese Productions, 2007.
Summary: In this section of the book Vogler discusses two things. He first focuses on the refusal of the call. The refusal of the call is about trying to aviod the adventure and the hero gives many lame excuses to get out of it, but if the hero does not eventually give in the the call tragedy can ensue, for example Lot looking back turns her into a pillar of salt. Also the hero might face two calls to adventure at once and must decide which one to go with. This makes him or her have to get there priorities straight. There are also some occasions where they hero actually tries or seeks out adventure.
The other part that Vogler discusses is the meeting with the mentor. This section is about how the mentor can impact the hero. The ways they can do this are being sources of wisdom. The mentors can teach the hero what they know and what they have experienced before. The mentor can also lead the hero in the wrong direction such as getting the hero to work with the other side.
Reaction. In my opinion the refusal of the call is a very important aspect of the story because it allows you to get to know the hero better. You get to understand what they are about and how the added pressure of the adventure can affect them. i also think the meeting with the mentor is very important because it lets you know who the character trusts and who the character wants help from.
Questions
In this modern time what kind of mentor to people want when the watch a movie or read a book?

I think in todays society people want mentors to be more realatable and realistic. Most people look up to friends and some people they don't even know, so I think if we watch a movie or read a book, the mentor doesn't always have to the wisest and the oldest.

I refused the call many times, but one time in particular was when I first started playing golf and was scared to enter in a tournament. I thought that everyone in the tournament was going to be a lot better than me, but I ended up facing my fear and didn't play as bad as I thought I would.
